Earth — the board game: strategy and opening decisions

Three decisions to watch in the teaching game. These notes explain why a move can help, what it costs and when the position may call for something else.

Decision 01

Prepare to follow

If opponents are likely to Plant, saving Soil can make their turns useful to you. With three players, resources may need to last across two opponents before your next active choice. Evaluate a card’s ability over the actions the whole table is likely to select.

Decision 02

Compare both sides of an action

An action can improve your board and still help a rival more. Check their ready Soil, empty plant spaces and matching abilities before selecting it. This is especially relevant near a Fauna race or the tableau-completion trigger.

Decision 03

Leave space for the scoring pattern

A promising row or column can become impossible to finish if the wrong card occupies its last space. Balance immediate engine value with visible Ecosystem requirements and canopy opportunities. Abundance’s extra options should be assessed against their actual resource and timing costs.

Test the idea at the table

A completed tableau triggers the completion round, followed by the scoring categories shown in the tutorial. Four routes cover two and three players in both the base game and Abundance. They are separate authored examples, so draws and final scores should be compared in their own scenario.

Revisit a decision in the guided playthrough and compare its payment, position and next available action. The alternatives explain trade-offs; they do not branch into a simulated new game or promise a winning line.
