Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory: strategy and opening decisions

Three decisions to watch in the teaching game. These notes explain why a move can help, what it costs and when the position may call for something else.

Decision 01

Plan the whole purchase

A resource that moves Prosperity may require a full set for the class’s population. Budget the total cost and the action used to consume it. Political changes can make a purchase cheaper, but waiting for a favourable election can also delay scoring.

Decision 02

Treat staffing as part of a company’s cost

A new business needs the right workforce and enough cash for wages, not just its purchase price. Compare production, demand and taxes before expanding. The Middle Class must also consider the opportunity cost of workers employed in another class’s companies.

Decision 03

Price political influence

Changing a policy benefits some roles and harms others. Compare the Influence spent with the economic gain and the points available. State play needs balanced Legitimacy as well as a solvent public purse; one impressive track does not replace the weaker tracks in its scoring.

Test the idea at the table

Working Class and Middle Class development uses Prosperity, the Capitalist Class develops Capital and Wealth, and the State must attend to Legitimacy and its agenda. The full four-player route demonstrates all five rounds under official rulebook v1.2.

Revisit a decision in the guided playthrough and compare its payment, position and next available action. The alternatives explain trade-offs; they do not branch into a simulated new game or promise a winning line.
