Kemet: Blood and Sand: strategy and opening decisions

Three decisions to watch in the teaching game. These notes explain why a move can help, what it costs and when the position may call for something else.

Decision 01

Build toward an action you can use

A higher pyramid opens a stronger power market, but building it consumes resources and tempo. Compare a level-four rush with cheaper powers and board access. Opponents can contest the temporary point or exploit the time spent building.

Decision 02

Value the position after the battle

Winning a fight and holding the desired territory are different outcomes. Card damage, protection and casualties determine what survives. Consider the next opponent’s turn and whether a temple can be held until the point is useful.

Decision 03

Count Fame at the actual winning check

Temporary Fame is vulnerable between turns. Work backward from the start of your next Day turn and identify what opponents can remove. Book of the Dead adds its own Honor and sacrifice trade-offs; a powerful Emerald effect must be judged with its cost and timing.

Test the idea at the table

The library separates a four-player Blood and Sand game from a three-player Book of the Dead game. The expansion introduces Honor, Emerald powers and the Underworld. Follow each route’s winning start-of-turn check rather than treating the end of Day as a generic points tally.

Revisit a decision in the guided playthrough and compare its payment, position and next available action. The alternatives explain trade-offs; they do not branch into a simulated new game or promise a winning line.

Sources and scope

The tutorial’s source audit checked the publisher’s base and expansion rules and corrected power references on 8 September 2026. Rule citations and contextual strategy notes are included at the table.
